Sunday Sevens #2 January 21, 2018

This week has been fun, frantic and thoroughly enjoyed. The highlight was certainly the beginning of the 10 days of birthday celebrations.

If you follow me on instagram, you’ll know that my daughter turned 10. It seems like just yesterday, but apparently it has been 10 years already. As is tradition for milestone birthdays in our household, we will celebrate one day for each year of life. I had a blast celebrating my fortieth. But that is indeed another story.

An adventurer at a young age

House Hunting continues and we saw a number of homes this week. One of which, stole my heart with its four large fireplaces and grand frontage. Sadly, it not only needed internal rehab, there was no furnace and a failed Title V with no plans yet available.  Basically, this grand home was not mortgageable and would require a Cash buyer only.  In the meantime, until the Universe is ready to send us our new home,  I have been enjoying researching and reading about the rich architecture of American period homes. If you’re in the market for an Antique home, I highly recommend you check out Circa Old Houses. It’s a website specifically geared to searching for old homes. You can search by location, period style and of course price.

No week would be complete without a little visit to the thrift store. There’s a lot to love about this J&G Meakin coffee pot. From the ironstone to the brown transferware. The pattern is called “Americana Brown”. Each piece in the series features various landscape scenes across America. Made in 1976 to celebrate the bicentennial, this brown toile coffee pot is decorated with a colonial couple at Independence Hall. This is very reminiscent of Liberty Blue  ,  a pattern I also collect. You can read my top tips for collecting Liberty Blue in this blog post.

Etsy sales have been keeping me busy. And this week I had my first repeat customer sale, of a vintage typewriter. This 1960’s Rheinmetall German typewriter, I acquired a few years ago. It’s unique in that it has a QWERT as opposed to QWERTZ keyboard. Every Christmas four the last four years, it took pride and place on our side board. I adore the colour of this machine and it types wonderfully. I hope the new owner enjoys !

There were many cups of tea to be had during our little mid week snow storm. This art deco tea set by Delphine had just the right touch of Spring to lift me out of the doldrums of Winter. Who wouldn’t feel happier after a cup of tea in this pretty little tea cup ?

We have finally managed to get rid of the all the Christmas Decor that was still hanging around. As we are moving and will need to pack up soon, I do not want to invest too heavily beyond a refresh for the season. So out come some old favourites. My trusty silverplate pieces !

Florals in a vintage Silverplate pitcher will brighten the start of every day

One of our family goals this year is to go to the cinema together once a month. This month we saw Jumangi Welcome to the Jungle with three other screaming 9 / 10 year olds. I have to admit it was a pretty fun movie and we all laughed hard. It was also good to see River Song’s mum AKA Karen Gillan ( Yes – I am a big Dr Who fan ) hasn’t been typecast.  A good way to end the week …  Now, I just wish I had “Dance fighting”  as a strength.

How was your week ?  Wishing you a wonderful week ahead.

Sunday Sevens #1 December 31, 2017

I have been enjoying  Sunshine and Celandines Sharon’s, Sunday Sevens posts this past year. If you haven’t heard of it before, Sunday Sevens is a weekly feature where you share those little things that happened, that perhaps do not warrant a full blog post. You might have had an awesome thrift find, had a great day out with friends and family or had the chance to discover some beautiful scenery. Such a great idea. I’ve decided to join in.

So here is my first contribution to Sunday Sevens on the last Sunday of 2017.  Continue reading Sunday Sevens #1 December 31, 2017
